Feyenoord with a loss of 16.9 million euros last season.

Feyenoord has recorded a loss of 16.9 million euros last season, as the club's management has announced. General manager Eric Gudde condemnded the 2008-2009 season in both sporting and financial terms as: "In one word - dramatic.

With reduction of costs of eleven million euros and a capital injection of over eight million by wealthy supporters, the liquidity position for Feyenoord this season is guaranteed.

The supervisor stated complex of factors influenced the financial fiasco. Gudde initially pointed to the "disappointing results" of the first team, with coach Gertjan Verbeek fired. Furthermore, Feyenoord had to buy the three-year contract of the current Heracles coach.

Led by the interim coach Leon Vlemmings, Feyenoord ended in the seventh place in the Eredivisie. The poor performance, with high earners like Van Bronckhorst, Makaay, Hofland and Landzaat in the ranks, summed up to lower revenue in De Kuip. Also there were less luxurious seats sold. Feyenoord also received less money from television contracts.

The absence of major transfers and a substantial settlement with the tax authorities, that is an old case for over five million euros, ended the already destitute Feyenoord deeper into trouble.
