Villarreal- Twente (Match Report)
The guests were more aggressive at the beginning of the game. Twente took the control of the ball using crosses to Luuk De Jong and the other tall offensive players. Very surprising for us was the pressure from the Holland midfielders in the opponents’ half of the field and the fact that their defence didn’t leave much space for Marchena and Valero. But something has happened and after the 17th minutes all has changed- Villarreal woke up and after few corners Marchena scored from the centre of the defence in front of the goalkeeper Mikhailov (22’).
The substitute of the forward De Jong with Janko (who was one of the most important players of Red Bull Salzbug) didn’t changed anything. Cazorla was tearing the left flank with his runs and the inevitable thing- the second goal for Villarreal- was happened after his very good pass to Valero (43’). There was a third hit before the break (Nilmar 45’) after very big mistake of Peter Wisgerhof.
In the second half the high- speed play of Rossi, Valero and Cazorla continued. Bryan Ruiz tried to deliver few high balls for Janko, but all of them were unsuccessful. Meanwhile Rossi didn’t miss to score an amazing goal (55’) watched closely by Onyewu and Douglas. That confirms the awful performance of the Twente defenders, especially in the centre with their very slow actions. We couldn’t say good words for the strikers of the guests, because they even couldn’t take the right positions. After the fifth goal (Nilmar 80’) the Garrido’s players have started to think about the match for the third place in Primera against Valencia and the next opponent in Europe at the semifinals with Nilmar and Cazorla receiving “unforced” yellow cards with idea to miss the protocol second leg.
We saw the “goal of honor” for Twente scored by Janko who had to be sent off for a very cruel foul against Gonzalo Rodriguez.
FT: 5-1
Absolutely deserved home win for Villarreal
