Real Madrid Xabi Alonso has warned that there is still a lot to be improved

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso reckons that the team still has much room for improvement despite their battling 1-0 victory over Sporting at El Molinon.

The match looked to be heading for a scoreless draw before Gonzalo Higuain's late winner maintained Jose Mourinho's side's lead at the summit of the Primera Division.

Alonso, speaking to journalists after the match, reckoned that the team cannot rest on their laurels despite remaining unbeaten so far this season.

He remarked: “It was a very competitive match. We both wanted to win, the match was very intense because Sporting play very quickly, and we had to ensure that we were strong in defence and good in attack.

“We got the points late on but we had chances to win before that. We are a team that is under construction because there are always things to improve, and we cannot stop.”

Alonso also remarked briefly on the argument between Mourinho and Rojiblancos boss Manuel Preciado, stating: “They should stop talking about it, and each should go their separate ways.”
