Stefan Kießling injured. Leverkusen is left without attack

Leverkusen - Mixed news for Bayer 04 Leverkusen: they will be without the services of Stefan Kießling for the time being, but a fellow striker has got off lightly on the injury front. Tests at a Cologne clinic have revealed that Kießling has a torn syndesmosis ligament in the left lower leg (high ankle sprain), the result of a tackle during Sunday's home game against 1. FC Nürnberg. The six-time German international received a cast and will have to put his feet up for the next few days. He is expected to be out of action for several weeks.
Strike partner Patrick Helmes, who also had to come off injured against Nürnberg, meanwhile enjoyed relative fortune in misfortune after being diagnosed with a lightly sprained thigh muscle. The 26-year-old front man is may not make the start for Wednesday's clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.
"We've been hit pretty hard with injury problems at this early stage of the season. Now we have to find ways and means of dealing with it, and we will", Bayer head coach Jupp Heynckes commented.
